The dentist

Yesterday was Hannah's very first trip to the dentist! (If she was writing this, she would not put an exclamation point on the end...trust me.) Don't get me wrong...she didn't cry or anything, she was very brave. Let me just start at the very beginning...

I had been trying my best to talk this dentist thing up to her ever since we made the appointment. Every time we would brush her teeth, we would practice what we were going to do at the dentist and she would do great.

Well, the big day came and when we arrived at the dentist, she walked with me like a very good girl up to the door and I opened it. Well, she would not go in. After I got her in and she could not get out, she started looking around and she spotted books so she got one and we started to look at it. About that time, Nick walked in and she felt much better. He started playing with her and I asked her to show him what she was going to do when she got to go back to see the dentist which was to open up and say "ah". I knew there may be a problem when she sat there tight lipped.

Soon they called us back. Hannah walked right back to the room and got on my lap in the big chair. Everything was okay because there is a personal sink right beside the chair with water that is continually running. Hannah was quite amused by it and thought it was fun to feel the water. Soon the hygienist came in and asked to see her teeth. Well, needless to say she forgot all about the sink.

It is important for you to know that this really wasn't an appointment...it only lasted about 10 minutes, and if you count the time it took for her to kick and push the hygienist away, it probably took even less than that. Grant it, she did kick and push her very nicely. She is very polite.

The hygienist did get to see 8 teeth and commented that they were very healthy. She gave kudos to Nick and I for the grand job we are doing with her. That is about the end of my story, although Hannah did give the hygienist a hug before she left and let her hold her. Told you, she is very polite! Next time, she wants to try to paint fluoride on Hannah's teeth. (I am just hoping and praying for the best...whatever outcome that may be).

Sounds like it went as well as could be expected. Sorry I haven't glanced at your blog in a while, I'm just now entering the land of the living again! This cold took a hold of me and wouldn't let go for a while. All I've wanted to do is sleep. Thankfully its passing. We'll see you tomorrow. If its nice on Friday would you be up for a trip to the zoo?
